“Balkan Chicken Drama” / Balkanisches Hühnchendrama

Alida Vračić, Populari’s Executive Director in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung

Translated quote from the press article published in German in The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung on July 03, 2013.

In 2012, Sarajevo-based Research Institute “Populari” has analyzed  the risks and made the authorities aware of the shortcomings. Populari’s Director, Alida Vračić criticized that in approaching the EU policies, authorities of the country often just want to tick off the sheer demands of Brussels, instead of puting efforts to actually meet the standards.

This applies to the Animal Welfare Law, adopted in 2009,  as well as to the package of Laws on Hygiene Standards and the Food Industry, approved in 2012.

“To tick off EU requirements by adopting European Directives,  but not enforcing them, in practice, means nothing,” complains Alida Vračić.
