Workshop: Visegrad for Strengthening Democracy in the Western Balkans: Slovakia’s Experience with Cooperation between Civil Society and Public Administration
On March 20-21, 2014 in Bratislava, Slovakia, Populari’s Policy Researcher Katarina Cvikl took part in the 2nd workshop within the framework of “Thinking 4 Governance” project under the name “Visegrad for Strengthening Democracy in the Western Balkans: Slovakia’s Experience with Cooperation between Civil Society and Public Administration”, hosted by the Central European Policy Institute and led by the Polish Institute of International Affairs.
Populari’s Policy Researcher Katarina Cvikl together with 17 other participants from Western Balkan countries (excluding Croatia) took part in discussions relating to Slovakia’s EU accession process experience, particularly with regards to Acquis Communautaire Chapters 23 and 24 (judiciary, fundamental rights, freedom, justice and security problems).
Slovak representatives from both public administration and the civil society shared the lessons learnt through four panels and during a visit to the National Criminal Unit at the Slovak Police Department.
Following the exchange of opinions and know-how between participants from the Western Balkans and Central European CSOs, think tanks and governmental officials, participants in the programme will now aim to apply the key messages of the workshop to their countries’ contexts.
